Letter from Head of School

Welcome to Nantucket Lighthouse School. Thank you for visiting our website and taking the time to learn more about our unique educational program. While there is much to explore on these pages, I hope you will also visit Nantucket Lighthouse School in person to experience firsthand the dynamic ways in which the curriculum takes shape in our classrooms and in the broader Nantucket community. You will quickly learn why so many have chosen Nantucket Lighthouse School for their children.

Our naturally integrated curriculum imaginatively engages children in developmentally appropriate academic endeavors while also developing some of their more subtle sensibilities. Structured math lessons are equally important as daily Thankfulness, scientific experiments as crafting for Nantucket Lighthouse School’s Yuletide Fair, and writing workshop as offering gestures of Peace to shopkeepers each September. The creative development of necessary academic skills, along with these non-cognitive abilities, is the work of our incredibly talented teachers. As a result of this work, our students are thoughtful and engaged; respectful of themselves and the world around them; and courageous and confident enough to take risks, confront difficult situations, and creatively puzzle through life’s inevitable challenges.

While Nantucket Lighthouse School has grown and now includes two campuses, one at Rugged Road and one at the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club, we all remain firmly committed to our founding ideals and to maintaining a small, child-centered program that is dedicated to developing the whole person - head, heart, and hand. It is my honor and privilege to be part of the Nantucket Lighthouse School community. Please join me for an Open House or call if you have any questions or would like to schedule a visit. We look forward to meeting you.

Best regards,
Emily Miller
