In 1999, Nantucket Lighthouse School was founded to meet the emerging need for school choice, important for every community, but especially one thirty miles out to sea.

Over the past twenty-two years, the School has grown tremendously, yet it has remained true to its founding ideals: an integrated, project-based and progressive education aimed at capturing the magic and joy of childhood while instilling a love of learning, a deep respect for the natural world, and a sense of responsibility to all.
