Our reopening plan is now available. We are proud of all the work that the teachers and the Health and Safety Committee have done these past months. We have been eagerly anticipating our students’ faces as they see each other next month. Thank you for your trust and your support.

THE POWER OF PLACE
As you can see in the Department of Education chart below, our location is one of the reasons that makes our reopening plan feasible. Thanks to the thoughtful and careful attention from our local governance and the responsibility that our year-round community has taken, Nantucket has maintained a positive COVID-19 testing rate that’s among the lowest in Massachusetts, at 0.96%.
FACULTY UPDATES
Our beloved Kinderclass teacher, Barrie Sanders, has decided to take a sabbatical this year. She will be sorely missed by all. We have loved having Barrie’s contribution to our Health and Safety plan this summer. Barrie will be pursuing art and other interests this year, but we will get to see her when she comes to do special projects with NLS students.
We are delighted to welcome Linda Ballinger back to NLS to teach the Pre-Kinder and Kinderclass! Linda taught Kindergarten for 6 years as well as many other grades both here and elsewhere. She is thrilled to come back and teach her favorite age group.
We are so excited to have Calin Duke join us as our horticulture teacher. Rain Harbison, our wonderful Horticulture teacher of many years, is going to be gardening and landscaping full-time. We thank Rain for her dedication to our students and for developing our Horticulture Program. Calin is a returning NLS teacher who is a gardening educator for Sustainable Nantucket. We welcome Calin back to NLS!
Lastly, the one and only Lizza has decided to focus on her well-known production: Out to See. We are so grateful for her many years at NLS and we look forward to Lizza’s visits. We are so pleased to have our music teacher, Nigel Goss, expand his repertoire to include teaching ALL of our NLS students both vocal and instrumental music.
