Weekly Newsletter 3-8-2024

Dear Lighthouse Families,

Welcome back! I hope you and your family had an enjoyable winter break and that it brought some fun, and a brief respite from the busy school weeks. Over the break, I also hope you had a chance to reflect on your student’s Whole Child Report. I encourage you to return to the report after the initial read so that you can consider both the whole of it and the details regarding your child’s many strengths and their areas for growth. Lighthouse teachers put a great deal of time and care into writing the reports, so please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions.

As of tomorrow, we are only two weeks away from Prom. Have you purchased your tickets, picked out your perfect 80’s-themed outfit, or made your prom proposal? There is still time to get your tickets from the events tab on our website. Simply click here. We are looking forward to an exciting evening. You can grab an early dinner at the Brotherhood and join us starting at 7:00p.m at the Nantucket Hotel where Brian Glowacki will be our MC for the night and Billy Voss will be playing all your favorite 80’s classics! There is a cash bar, and desserts will be provided by PPX. Thank you to the many families for their generous support of the teacher tickets for Prom. What a wonderful gift and what a wonderful evening it will be celebrating with our community!

Over the break, I am hopeful that we cleared the school of the many colds and viruses that circulated throughout January and February. If your travels brought sickness, please remember our general policy about returning to school which includes students being 24-hours free of symptoms like fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. While the CDC’s guidelines regarding COVID isolation are changing, please contact Alicia Lynn about when a student may return to school after testing positive for COVID.

It’s been such a joy reconnecting with everyone this week. I hope you have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Warm regards,

Emily

Happy, Thoughtful Kids Grown Here

Next week, I look forward to visiting Small School through Second Grade classrooms to begin social-emotional lessons on personal space, identifying trusted adults, and understanding the distinction between secrets and surprises. Child psychologists affirm that providing age-appropriate lessons on safe and unsafe touch empowers children with the confidence to set and respect body boundaries.

Additionally, our older students from Third through Fifth Grade will have the opportunity to engage in discussions led by representatives from A Safe Place focused on fostering healthy relationships and strategies to prevent bullying.

At Nantucket Lighthouse School, we believe in nurturing not just academic growth but also the social-emotional well-being of our students. By starting these conversations early and reinforcing them throughout your child’s education, we’re laying a foundation for a safe learning community built on respect.

Please reach out if you have any questions or would like more information or resources to discuss these topics with your children at home.

Warm regards,

Julia
