Off Island Travel Policy FAQs
We have an off-island travel policy that aligns with our philosophy of taking care each other. We recognize that our off-island policy is not aligned with, and more stringent than, other educational organizations on island. We also recognize the teachable moment that stems from this pandemic: that we are thinking of WE rather than I. When we err on the side of caution, we are valuing our school community. Our goal is to have successful in-person learning this year.
FAQ about our Off-Island Travel Policy:
Who needs to get tested?
If a NLS student goes off-island with one or more members of the household, we ask that the NLS student receives a negative Covid-19 before returning to school.
If a household member is traveling off-island without the NLS student, we ask that the individual receives a negative Covid-19 test before having unmasked exposure to the NLS student. Otherwise, the NLS student will need to be tested themselves before returning to school.
What if someone comes from off-island and stays with your family?
If you have an off-island guest staying in your home, we ask that your guest get a negative Covid-19 test before having unmasked exposure to the NLS student(s). Otherwise, the NLS student(s) will need to be tested themselves before returning to school.
How do I schedule my test?
You can make your testing appointment online at Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s website. We recommend that you do this before you travel. This way, you can schedule your test upon your return.
How will these policies be enforced?
We know that families will do what they need to do to help keep our community safe so our children can attend school in person.
How long will this policy be in place?
We understand the inconvenience that this places on families. We are exploring using rapid private testing options for the future. We plan a 30-day review of this off-island travel policy and encourage feedback to Christine and Maryann until then.
