Author of the award-wining book, The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age (cited as a Wall Street Journal TOP 10 Best Non-Fiction 2013), Dr. Steiner-Adair examines the ways in which the wonders of technology and media impact how children learn and grow, and shows parents and educators how to reap the benefits of technology while reducing the risks it poses at every stage of child development.
Over the past 30 years, Dr. Steiner-Adair has presented keynote lectures, workshops and trainings at more than 500 schools, and at professional conferences internationally and throughout the United States. As a consultant she helps schools meet the challenges of educating 21st Century students to be smart, culturally savvy and compassionate global citizens. She speaks with students, faculty and parents on a wide range of topics related to: the impact of technology on childhood, education and family life, and strengthening children’s social and emotional learning (SEL) and psychological wellbeing. She has appeared on ABC, BBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, PBS, among others, and is often quoted in newspapers and magazines including the New York Times, WSJ, Washington Post, Huffington Post, CNN Opinion, Time and in international press.
Dr. Steiner-Adair will be giving three presentations during her visit to Nantucket on November 3rd. First, she will meet with Nantucket Lighthouse School middle school students for a talk titled “Let’s Connect! The Impact of Tech on How We Think, Act, Relate and Create.” Later that afternoon, she will lead a conversation with over forty island educators which will focus on technology and school culture. Lastly, Steiner-Adair will be speaking at a free community event open to all. The topic of the evening lecture is: The Sustainable Family – Seven Principles for Strengthening Family Connections in the Digital Age. This event is from 6-7:30PM at the White Elephant Ballroom, part of the White Elephant Village.

In addition to Dr. Steiner-Adair, the 2016-2017 Educational Speaker Series will feature author, educator and clinical psychologist Dr. Ross Greene, Lost at School and The Explosive Child, who will be visiting the island this winter.
