Dr. Steiner-Adair will be giving three presentations during her visit to Nantucket on November 3rd. First, she will meet with Nantucket Lighthouse School middle school students for a talk titled “Let’s Connect! The Impact of Tech on How We Think, Act, Relate and Create.” Later that afternoon, she will lead a conversation with over forty island educators which will focus on technology and school culture. Lastly, Steiner-Adair will be speaking at a free community event open to all. The topic of the evening lecture is: The Sustainable Family – Seven Principles for Strengthening Family Connections in the Digital Age. This event is from 6-7:30PM at the White Elephant Ballroom, part of the White Elephant Village.
“Several years ago, I heard Catherine Steiner-Adair speak at the Learning and the Brain Conference in Boston,” noted Nantucket Lighthouse School Head of School Emily Miller. “I was fascinated by her keynote address and connected immediately with her research and work with children and their families. Having worked in the field of education for over 25 years, I have watched families, including my own, as they attempt to navigate an ever-changing world and an evolving educational arena that has seen exponential increases in the use of technology. Dr. Steiner-Adair explores our mounting presence online and with technology, noting its impact on the healthy development of children. We are so grateful for the opportunity to bring Dr. Steiner-Adair to Nantucket, and equally thankful for the support from the Community Foundation for Nantucket’s ReMain Nantucket Fund. What a unique opportunity for island educators and families to come together on such a relevant topic.”
Nantucket Lighthouse School’s annual Educational Speaker Series brings prominent educators and industry leaders to our community, providing parents with informative workshops on timely topics and offering Nantucket educators on-island professional development opportunities,” added Logan Gomes, Nantucket Lighthouse School Director of Advancement and Communications.
In addition to Dr. Steiner-Adair, the 2016-2017 Educational Speaker Series will feature author, educator and clinical psychologist Dr. Ross Greene, Lost at School and The Explosive Child, who will be visiting the island this winter.
The 2015-2016 Educational Speaker Series, funded by the Community Foundation for Nantucket’s Nantucket Fund™, supported three parenting workshops with Executive Director of the Cape Cod Children’s Place Cindy Horgan.
