Dear Lighthouse Families,
Between off-island field trips, warmer weather, Project Night, and the new play structure, mud kitchen, and water table, the campus is humming with excitement! As the final weeks of school seem to be racing by, we ask you to mark your calendars for two special events.
The first is the Project Night and Family Picnic which begins at 5:00p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 with a quick Small School concert in front of the garden. After the Small Schoolers perform, we invite you to join us in the Kinder through fifth-grade classrooms to view the children’s projects and work from this year. Once families have had a chance to visit in the classrooms, we encourage you to begin picnicking. At 6:15 p.m. we will serve ice cream that was generously donated by Island Kitchen.
Also, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30p.m. for our Annual Celebration. We will recognize faculty and Board members for their outstanding work and dedication to Nantucket Lighthouse School, and we will celebrate the close of the 2023-24 school year.
Enjoy the long weekend. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday morning.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Emily
Happy, Thoughtful Kids Grown Here
I am eagerly looking forward to our upcoming Project Night!
While the projects on display in Kinderclass through Grade 5 are undeniably impressive, what always stands out to me is the intrinsic pride the children take in their hard work.
This self-pride is not only heartwarming but also important for development. Research shows that when children are motivated intrinsically rather than by external validation, they are more likely to develop a love for learning that carries them through life’s inevitable ups and downs. Intrinsic pride builds a solid foundation for mental and emotional well-being, promoting a growth mindset that values effort and progress over outcomes. This mindset is a powerful tool that can equip your children to face any challenge with confidence and resilience.
I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night!
Warmly,
Julia
