Dear Lighthouse Families,
It is hard to believe that we have been in school for just a few short weeks. Already when I visit in classrooms, observe students at All School Meeting, or strike up conversations with children in the hallway, it feels as if we have been together for quite some time. The children’s familiarity with one another, their teachers, and the routines of each day are blossoming. These first weeks of school are about laying the groundwork for later academic work, and they offer us time to build a sense of connection and community for all.
The children are learning what is expected in school and in their classrooms, including how to responsibly use materials, where and how to place them when they are done, and how to work and play together. Establishing predictable routines in an environment that is instructive and tolerant of risk taking (and lessons learned from mistakes), helps children feel safe to explore, confident navigating difficult moments during the school day, and capable of working independently.
We are off to an amazing start, and we thank you for partnering with us on this year’s educational journey. As teachers shared at Parent Night, you are always welcome to connect with them if you have questions about your students and their experiences in the classroom. Additionally, the doors to our administrative offices are always open to you.
Have a wonderful weekend. I hope you are able to stay warm and dry.
Warm regards,
Emily
Happy, Thoughtful Kids Grown Here
Congratulations on a wonderful start to the school year! It is truly inspiring to see the love and care you pour into preparing your child for a joyful day at school. From establishing morning routines to packing lunches and even remembering those extra sets of clothes for rainy days, every small action reflects your dedication and thoughtfulness.
Recently, the U.S. Surgeon General recognized parental stress as a significant public health issue. As a school counselor, I have read numerous studies on post-COVID stress affecting children and educators, but it is surprising how little has been reported about parental stress – until now. Today’s parents are navigating a unique set of pressures – balancing work, social expectations, and technology exposure, to name a few. It’s more important than ever to acknowledge the weight you are carrying. I want to remind you that you are doing an incredible job!
Please know that I’m available as resource as you navigate your child’s educational journey. Don’t hesitate to reach out – our school community is always here to offer you connection and support!
Warmly,
Julia
